Sapphire (A1203) has a transmission range of 0.2-5.5 um, which is an excellent infrared optical window and substrate material. It is second only to diamond in high temperature resistance and high hardness, and is resistant to acid and alkali corrosion. Sapphire substrate can be used as epitaxial wafer in semiconductor industry, and used to make LED and so on.
